The Watson Family Website

A web site devoted to the Watson family descended from Amos Watson, of Northallerton in North Yorkshire. Amos was was born in 1843 and we have traced five generations of descendants from his marriage with Mary Anne. We now have entries from over 200 descendants in our database.

The Story So Far

Why we started

When Wilfred Hector Watson died in 1989 there was amongst the possessions a large family bible. Typically for bibles of this nature, it contained a significant amount of family history and records.

Wilfred Hector Watson was one of a family of fourteen, two boys and 12 girls. He had only one son, my father, Wilfred Watson of Leyburn, North Yorkshire, which makes him the the last surviving male in the Watson line, descended from William Watson (1865-1952).

Where have we got to

My mother, Nan Watson has over the last few years, through writing to many of the relatives, built up an almost complete family tree. More recently we have been able to fill in some of the missing details, and then we have put together this site including many photographs and some snippets of the social history that surrounds the family.

  • We have each of the separate sections of the tree by major family members. Click here to go to the page that helps you find the right part of the tree.

If you haven't got it already, you will need the acrobat viewer - down load it free from here:

Current Activity

Filling in the details
My interest is in the social history attached to the family. We have the structure of the family tree, but there are many details missing such as occupations, places of birth, marriage and death. I am hoping to be able to complete those details.

Researching The NZ/Australia Branch
There is a significant arm of the family in the Antipodes. It would be great to get in touch and find out when and why the family moved overseas...

Researching the Right Wing
If we go back two generations from Wilfred Hector Watson then we get back to Amos Watson (1843-1925). There is a big part of the tree that we have no contact with any of today's descendants.
